From July 4 to August 3, we invite you to visit the SĀBRS exhibition “ANATOMY OF ZINES” at the Kalnciema Quarter Gallery. This exhibition will showcase zines from the libraries of artists Maija Kurševa, Rūta Briede, and the association “Forty Degrees.” The exhibition is part of the third annual Zine and Small Publishers Festival SĀBRS, which will take place from July 6 to 7 on the second floor of the Āgenskalns Market. The festival aims to cultivate a sense of community among publishers and artists by sharing ideas and experiences and fostering collaborations and friendships.
A zine is a short form of the word “magazine.” Typically, a zine is a small-circulation, small-format magazine published by the author of its content. The content of zines can vary widely, including texts on politics, poetry, comics, photographs, hand-drawn or computer-generated illustrations, and more.
As the authors of the exhibition explain, “ANATOMY OF ZINES” invites you to explore the depths of the zine world, discover its unique structure, and engage in self-expression. The exhibition will inspire visitors to learn about zine creation to share their observations and stories.
The exhibition at the Kalnciema Quarter Gallery is open for free on weekdays from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The gallery is closed on Sundays.
