On March 1st The Seed Market

2025.02.11

On March 1st, Kalnciema Quarter will welcome the urban spring and kick off preparations for the sowing season!

At the Seed Market, some of Latvia’s most dedicated seed collectors will gather, bringing carefully nurtured vegetable, legume, and berry seeds. For example, the Zutiņi farm will showcase over 60 different bean varieties and more than 200 types of tomato seeds, including rare selections from some of the world’s most renowned collectors.

Starting at 10:00 AM, visitors can meet Sandra Stabinge, the founder of the Latvian Seed Library, at the Wine Shop Café. She will introduce guests to the seed-saving movement through engaging activities.

The Seed Market aims to highlight and preserve plant varieties unique to Latvia while promoting biodiversity. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet collectors in person, exchange seeds and gardening tips, and take part in hands-on activities. By the time they head home, they’ll be equipped with the knowledge and motivation to start their own gardens—whether in a backyard or on a windowsill!

Admission is free. Seed collectors will be available in the Wine Shop Café.
