From 17.09. to 12.10. Anda Poikāne

2024.09.12

From September 17 to October 12, the exhibition of the renowned artist Anda Poikāne, titled "The Place," will be on display at the Kalnciems Quarter Gallery.

Anda herself shares what can be seen at the exhibition and what inspired it: "The world is the living space of an artist. I am fascinated by the idea of how people think, see, feel, and live in different places and cultures all around the world, especially in the East. In the fall of 2023, I went on an adventure to the 'Mundum' art plein air in Nepal together with artist Ieva Kaula. The exhibition is dedicated to the people of that place and inspired by them. Observations, reflections, and the creative process take place in both the daily life of a Nepali and a Latvian artist. Are they united or do they remain distinct? Spontaneous encounters serve this purpose, like shared joyful experiences that open gateways between cultures and traditions. This small exhibition, created together with Dhanu Jakha (Nepal), serves as a lasting and re-experiencable conversation between us, two people who met at the plein air, with unified beliefs from different corners of the world. Through drawings and travel photographs, the exhibition tells the story of a Westerner searching in the East and an Easterner searching in the West."

Anda Poikāne (born in 1972) is a sculptor known for her distinctive terracotta sculptures and masterful small-scale plastic forms. She participates in exhibitions with large-format drawings, object forms made from various materials, and video works. Together with like-minded individuals, she creates art and sound projects. In her creative work, she seeks connections between the archaic and the present, paying attention to artistic expression through her aesthetic perception. Without limiting herself to a specific genre, the artist creates visual stories.

The exhibition is open every weekday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The gallery is closed on Sundays. Entry is free of charge.
