Heritage Roots Market

2025.06.30

This Saturday, July 5, in the joyful spirit of the Song and Dance Festival week, Kalnciema Quarter invites you to the Heritage Roots Market (Sakņu tirgus) – from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, let’s celebrate both the rich gifts of Latvian nature and the deep roots of our culture and heritage. Special guests will join us – the team from “Vēveri,” the rural exposition of the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum in Vecpiebalga, and ukulele.lv with musical instrument workshops.

From 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the “Vēveri” family will host activities inspired by their historic village in Vecpiebalga, which has preserved ancient homesteads and Latvian traditions for over 400 years. At the market, they will offer traditional bread tastings and share stories about rural life in the past, lead a herbal tapestry workshop where visitors can create their own herb compositions, and present ceramic works inspired by Latvian folk traditions.

Ukulele.lv will provide music and hands-on creative fun – you’ll have the chance to learn to play folk songs on the ukulele, kalimba, tongue drums, and other beginner-friendly instruments. All instruments and specially designed songbooks will be available for purchase.

At the same time, farmers and local producers from all over Latvia will bring natural treasures that reflect the roots of Latvian identity and traditions. Because markets are a meaningful part of what we cultivate here at Kalnciema Quarter.

Entrance and participation are free of charge.
